Minister of Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises Teten Masduki said that the government is targeting 10 million Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) to have a Business Identification Number (NIB) by the end of 2023.
As for the data from the Ministry of Cooperatives and SMEs during the period August 4, 2021 to April 10, 2023, the Online Single Submission (OSS) system has issued 3,803,578 NIBs. Of this figure, as many as 98 percent are micro and small businesses (MSEs). Teten said that achieving the 10 million target is quite easy to target considering the potential of 7.1 million People’s Business Credit (KUR) debtors. In line with this, Teten also said the importance of OSS readiness to accommodate the booming number of NIB registrants. “We need the readiness of the OSS system to accommodate a larger number of registrants,” said Teten, Tuesday (11/4). On the same occasion, Indonesian Investment Minister or Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM), Bahlil Lahadalia said, related to the acceleration and increase in the volume of NIB, this is based on orders in the Job Creation Law (Ciptaker) and President Jokowi’s orders. Furthermore, to succeed in this target, his party will prepare the system well, because MSME players are very important for the movement of the country’s economy.
What is NIB and its importance for MSMEs

NIB or Business Identification Number is an identity of business actors issued through the OSS system. It is distinguished according to the output of the product or service produced. NIB consists of 13 digits of random numbers equipped with security and electronic signatures. Apart from being used as an identity, NIB has other functions such as Company Registration Certificate (TDP), Import Identification Number (API), Customs Access, and is often used as a requirement to obtain a Trade Business License (SIUP) and Halal Certificate. For MSME entrepreneurs who already have NIB, President Jokowi emphasized that they will get easy access to funding. One of them is the low interest rate KUR. The ease in KUR is implemented with government subsidies, so that the interest charged to users is only three percent.

Registration of MSMEs to obtain their own NIB means that the business will be registered with the central government. This will make it easier for relevant agencies to provide training and coaching on business skills according to domicile.
Making Business Legal

How to Register NIB for MSMEs?
As mentioned, NIB registration can be done online through the OSS system. But before that, there are several required documents that must be fulfilled in order to apply for NIB registration, including:
- Company deed (if the business is incorporated)
- ID CARD
- Personal/company NPWP
- Email atif
- Active phone number
- The business location is in accordance with the spatial layout of the license to run a business
Once the required documents are complete, follow these steps:
- Visit the OSS page
- Select Login. Then enter your Username, Password, and Captcha Code.
- Click on the Business Licensing menu and select New Application
- Fill in the Business Actor Data completely and correctly
- Fill in the Business Field Data completely and correctly
- Fill in the Business Field Detail data
- Fill in the Business Field Products and Services data
- Check List of Products or Services
- Check Business Data
- Check List of Business Activities
- Check and complete the environmental approval document (KBLI or Specific Field). Then read and understand the applicable provisions. If so, check the Self-Declaration
- Check the Business Licensing Draft. NIB was successfully obtained
