One of the requirements for a business actor to obtain a Business Identification Number (NIB) as a sign of legality is to adjust the Indonesian Standard Business Field Classification (KBLI) code.
The KBLI is a classification system for classifying business activities. Through KBLI, it will be easy to categorize between different business activities.
From KBLI, it will also be seen what business licensing obligations must be taken care of to carry out these business activities. However, what if your business involves more than one type of business activity with different KBLI? Is it allowed to have several KBLI in one business NIB? Overview of KBLI and NIB
In accordance with the Central Statistics Agency Regulation Number 2 of 2020 concerning the Indonesian Standard Business Field Classification, KBLI is a grouping of Indonesian economic activities/activities that produce products/outputs, both in the form of goods and services based on business fields. The aim is to provide uniformity in the concept, definition, and classification of business fields in the development and shift of economic activities in Indonesia. Meanwhile, NIB is proof of registration of business actors to carry out business activities. In addition, it also applies as an identity to carry out its business activities. In addition, NIB consists of 13 random digit numbers equipped with security and electronic signatures. In order to manage the issuance of NIB, the applicant is required to ensure the completeness of business actor data and the general plan of business activities. Where referring to Article 19 paragraph (7) of BKPM Regulation 4/2021, one of the categories of general business activity plans that must be inputted is the line of business according to KBLI.

In essence, KBLI whose description is in accordance with business activities in the field is needed so that NIB can be issued.
Can one business have multiple KBLI codes?
In general, there are no rules governing the maximum number of KBLIs that can be selected in a single business license. Therefore, choosing multiple KBLI types in one business license is allowed.
For example, suppose business A initially has KBLI code 5610 which classifies it as a restaurant and mobile food provider. However, when the business wants to expand its reach by providing cakes and bakeries, they can add KBLI code 56109 which categorizes the business as restaurants and other mobile food providers. This can be done in accordance with the addition of other business activities that are relevant to the previous business activities. However, it is important to note that not all types of business activities can be combined with other business activities. This means that each business activity should only have one specific KBLI or what is referred to as KBLI Single Purpose (Article 15 paragraph (1) BKPM Regulation Number 4 of 2021). Below is a list of KBLI codes and types that are included in the Single Purpose category or business fields in accordance with statutory regulations, where business actors can carry out these business activities on condition that they are not involved in other business fields, namely:

- 86103: Private Hospital Activities
Transportation Sector
- 50111: Linear Home Navy for Passengers
- 50112: Domestic Sea Transportation of Trampers for Passengers
- 50113: Inland Navy for Tourism
- 50114: Pioneer Domestic Sea Transportation for Passengers
- 50135: Domestic Sea Transportation People’s Shipping
- 50144: People’s Shipping Overseas Sea Transportation
- 50211: Linear River and Lake Transportation (Fixed and Regular Routes) for Passengers
- 52221: Sea Port Service Activities
- 52222: River and Lake Port Service Activities
- 52223: Ferry Port Service Activities
Shipping Sector
- 52240: Cargo Handling (Loading and Unloading Goods)
- 52291: Transportation Management Services (JPT)
Broadcasting Sector
- 60102: Private Radio Broadcasting
- 60202: Private Television Broadcasting and Programming Activities
Therefore, although one NIB can contain several KLBI, it is important for business actors to pay attention to which sector categories can only contain one KBLI in one NIB.
