Brand Renewal
Trademarks are important in the trade of goods or services. Brands are used as business identities that differentiate between products made by one party and another. Legally, a trademark becomes a valid proof of ownership in Indonesia if it has been registered in the government system through the Directorate General of Intellectual Property (DJKI) of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights (Kemenkumham).
- The relevant trademark is still used on the goods or services as stated in the trademark certificate; and
- The goods or services referred to are goods/services that are still being produced and/or traded.

Brand Renewal
Time Limit for Registered Trademark Protection
Registered trademarks receive legal protection for a period of 10 (ten) years from the date of receipt and the period can be extended for the same period. The purpose of setting the time limit for registered trademark protection for 10 years and can be extended is to ensure that the registered trademark is actually used on goods/services and the goods/services are still produced and/or traded.
Application for Trademark Renewal
Application for the extension of trademark protection can be made at the time of 6 months before the expiration of the term of protection (6 months before the due date of the Trademark protection period), up to the time of 6 months after the protection period ends (During 6 months after the due date of the Trademark protection period) by paying the PNBP value of the extension of 2 times the value of PNBP Trademark Extension 6 months before the expiration of the Trademark protection period.
Brands will expire if not renewed
In the event that the mark is not renewed, then the DJKI will give your mark an “Expired” status (see example in the image below). Consequently, an expired mark can be used and registered by another party with a similar name.
